23 Aug Spam Musubi Made Me Friends!
When I was a young girl and first moved to California from Hawai’i, I did not have any friends. I remember bringing Spam Musubi (spam & rice, wrapped in seaweed) to school and being made fun of for eating Spam… Which was so strange because in Hawai’i, you were the coolest kid if your mom made you Spam Musubi for lunch. I was so sad and ashamed, ran to the bathroom, and cried. Minutes later, a sweet girl came into the bathroom and said she would try a bite of my Spam Musubi. To my surprise, she loved it and we became friends! It was at that moment, I realized that food can create relationships (even Spam!).
